Monmouth Enterprise Initiative

ASE were privileged to be involved with the Monmouth Enterprise Initiative, which gives seventy selected students from across the country an opportunity to spend time with leading UK Consulting firms.

Organised by the Worshipful Company of Haberdashers, the event began on the Monday evening with a formal dinner in the impressive surroundings of the Haberdashers Hall, where students were able to relax and spend time with employees from the ten supporting consulting organisations, all being members of the Management Consultancy Association.

The following day, each of the supporting consulting firms hosted seven allocated students. Making use of the offices of the Institute of Directors, ASE began the day by providing an overview of the typical life of a management consultant, with the ultimate aim of helping the students understand the exciting opportunities within the cut-and-thrust of top-level business. The morning culminated with a “mini-apprentice” style exercise that aimed to get the students developing a product or service concept and addressing the typical business case challenges required to take it to market. ASE was thrilled with the level of enthusiasm, thirst for knowledge and natural business flare demonstrated by each of the students, which made for a great day for everyone.

Following a working lunch, the students were taken (on foot via the tourist route of Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, Downing Street and the Houses or Parliament) to one ASE’s most established clients, the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC). They were greeted by Gordon Hextall, CBE, who provided an overview of the Smart Metering programme, and some of the key work that ASE has supported DECC in delivering.

The Monmouth Enterprise Initiative came about thanks to a very generous gift from Lord Ezra, an Old Boy of Haberdashers’ Monmouth School, and is also kindly supported by the Haberdashers’ Livery Company.
